Doctors call this hyperhidrosis, but it probably goes by other names if you have problems with excessive sweating. With excessive sweating, you and your doctor can choose from those that have proven to be very successful. You don’t have to live in this state.

Working with your doctor, you can explore therapies and choose the ones that suit your needs.

This condition’s name translates as “abnormal sweating pathology” – “hyperhidrosis” certainly sounds more impressive. The arms, legs, face, and armpits are most commonly affected. This excessive sweating is usually independent of activity and emotional state. An overactive autonomic nervous system generally causes this hyperactivity. Excessive moisture in these areas can be harmful to society and emotionally painful.

The affected area (arms, legs, armpits, etc.) will greatly affect the treatment approach. Three approaches are used in treatment: topical (antiperspirants), medical (drugs that suppress sweating), and surgical (reduction of sweat glands, direct change in their function [ablation, curettage, and suction]). Considering surgery, it is important to try more conservative approaches first.

Antiperspirants, usually containing aluminum, work by physically blocking and absorbing sweat. They are available both prescription and over-the-counter. For mild to moderate severity, these stronger antiperspirants may be all you need. This is where most people should start looking for relief. The affected areas are excessively damp and cause social discomfort. Sweating occurs without visible external triggers but can be exacerbated by nervousness. These wild sweat glands are usually caused by an overactive sympathetic nervous system and excessive intake from the sweat glands.

The medical approach aims to soften the function of the sympathetic nervous system using drugs of the functional class of anticholinergics. These drugs are used for overactive bladder and muscle spasms and are not specifically indicated for hyperhidrosis. A common side effect is discussed here – dry mouth and other mucous structures and sweat glands. In many milder cases of axillary hyperhidrosis, a good antiperspirant offers significant relief. They usually contain an aluminum salt that can absorb large volumes of water.

It is performed primarily endoscopically, and the area in which it is most often treated is inside the chest. The endoscope made it possible to do much more of them than when they were done “with an open chest.” If you or your loved one has hyperhidrosis, there is certainly hope that it can be successfully dealt with. Talking with your doctor can help you find the most effective remedies for excessive sweating treatment. It is strongly recommended to abandon more conservative (medication) treatments before the operation.

At the end

Those who suffer from this unpleasant condition may be encouraged because there are effective treatments for excessive sweating that, like many other medications, always get better. You and your doctor can explore these treatments and find the one that’s right for you.
