University of Phoenix, Maricopa Community Colleges Announce Transfer Program

University of Phoenix and Maricopa Community College recently announced an agreement designed to allow more students the opportunity to complete a bachelor’s degree.

The partnership allows Maricopa Community College students to transfer credits more easily to University of Phoenix, reducing the overall cost of their education.

Dubbed the 3 + 1 transfer program, the partnership allows students to take three years at Maricopa Community College, completing general course requirements. Their final year will be spent at University of Phoenix in order to secure a bachelor’s degree in management, health management or nursing. The nursing program is for RN-licensed nurses seeking to complete a bachelor’s degree. It does not prepare students for initial nurse licensure.

Students at all 10 Maricopa Community Colleges are eligible for the 3 + 1 transfer program. Students can transfer up to 87 credits toward a bachelor’s degree. If a student transfers all 87[1] eligible credits, they will only need to complete 33 credits at University of Phoenix in order to graduate.

Under the agreement, University of Phoenix will waive all fees and tuition for the first course. In addition, Marico Community College students can access a special associate degree transfer tuition rate with a savings of $144 per credit for all remaining courses.

“We are excited to align with Maricopa Community College to help address the skills-gap in popular industries such as nursing, management, and healthcare,” said University of Phoenix Provost John Woods. “Preparing students for fulfilling careers is a mission both institutions share, and this pathway means students save money, while still completing their bachelor’s in four years.”

Woods noted that under the new agreement, students can complete a bachelor’s degree in as little as 14 months and would need just 11 classes to finish their studies if they transfer the full 87 credits.

University of Phoenix undergraduate courses are offered one course at a time in five-week increments. New courses begin on a monthly basis.

“Our agreement with University of Phoenix will allow students to attend a Maricopa college and get a head start in earning their bachelor’s degree,” said Rose Rojas, director of transfer for Maricopa Community College. “Our colleges are committed to offering students the best path for their educational journey. The pathway with University of Phoenix provides a very cost-effective option for students to earn both an associate degree and bachelor’s degree in high demand areas.”
